Appointments
Many appointments are wasted because
patients do not ring to cancel or call too late for their
appointments to be offered to someone else.
Please help us by letting us know as soon as possible if you
cannot attend. |
Appointments are also available to book online. To register for
this service, please speak to a member of reception. Once
registered, the same log in details serve both appointments and
prescriptions.
In an attempt to improve the availability of appointments for
patients we now operate a system called Advanced Access.
This system applies only to the doctors, the nurses can be booked
up to 4 weeks in advance. You may make an appointment with any of
the doctors in the practice (we would recommend that you see one
doctor consistently where possible). Appointments are 10 minutes
long (please ensure one patient and one problem per appointment).
If you need any longer you may book a double appointment but
please make sure you tell the receptionist when booking.
We do try our best to run to time but due to the nature of our
work this is sometimes difficult to achieve.
How does Advanced Access work?
- We will offer you a same-day appointment if you ring before
11.00 am.
- You will be offered an appointment with either a doctor or a
nurse or you may be offered a telephone consultation.
- After 11.00 am, if no appointments are available, urgent
problems are referred to the duty doctor.
- If you wish to see a particular doctor, their appointments
for that day may have already been taken. The receptionist will
advise you on the next available appointment with that Doctor or
with another health professional.
- A number of appointments are available up to 2 weeks in
advance.
Booking appointments on-line
Before you can start booking appointments on-line you must
first register your details for this service. Just ask at our
reception for a Registration Form. This provides all the
information needed. Then follow this link:
The first time you use this facility you have to create your
account. Once registered you can simply log on with
your your practice ID, patient ID and password given earlier. You
can view any appointments already made, cancel them is necessary,
or book a new appointment after checking which times are
available. When you book an appointment on-line, you will
receive confirmation immediately. There is no need to re-confirm
by e-mail or telephone - just arrive promptly on the day.
GP availability
The table below shows the days that each GP is normally
in surgery. They are subject to change depending on holidays,
study leave and sickness. Where possible please telephone for an
appointment on the day you wish to see a GP. We will always
try and put you with the GP of your choice although this may not
always be possible.

Home Visits
Home visits should be requested before 10.00am and are only
intended for those too ill or infirm to travel. Where transport
is a problem please try and get a neighbour or relative to bring
you down to the surgery (alternatively see below). Where a home visit is necessary
the receptionist will ask for details of the problem to help the
doctor to plan their rounds.
Volunteer drivers
For those patients without transport we have a small team of
volunteer drivers who will collect and return patients to their
home for appointments at the surgery. A small fee is charged to
cover petrol costs. For further details please contact
reception. Please note that drivers are only able to provide
transport to and from the surgery. (We are always looking for
volunteers – if you find you are able to offer your time, please
contact reception).
Out of Hours Arrangements
When the surgery is closed (after 6.30pm during the weekdays
and at weekends), your call will go directly to the Out of hours centre where your call will be assessed and you
may be given advice on how to manage the problem yourself at
home. They may recommend that you attend the Primary Care Centre
at Southmead hospital. In some circumstances it may be necessary
for a doctor to visit you at home or for you to attend the
Accident and Emergency Department. The Out of Hours telephone
number is the same as the daytime surgery number – 9681182.
Minor Injuries Unit
The Minor Injuries Unit is based at Southmead Hospital
(previously A&E). Open from 9am – 9pm 7 days a week. A dedicated
team of emergency nurse practitioners are on hand to deal with a
wide range of minor injuries and illnesses from wounds and
sprains to broken bones and burns.
NHS Walk-In Centres
There are two NHS walk-in centres in Bristol (see below)
where patients can go for treatment for minor injuries and
illnesses such as strains and sprains, coughs and colds and
flu-like symptoms. Emergency contraception is also available.
- Bristol Walk-in Centre, 35 Broad Street, Bristol,
Avon, BS1 2EZ (open 8am-8pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-6pm Sundays
and bank holidays)

NHS Direct – 0845 46 47
NHS Direct is a 24-hour confidential telephone advice
service. When our surgery is closed at night and weekends,
all phone calls are routed through this service. You can
however use this service for general medical advice and for
the location of local dental services.
Non NHS Services
A range of services are offered which are not covered by the
National Health Service. For example, sports medicals, insurance
medicals, private sick notes, completion of insurance forms,
letters to third parties (i.e, confirming medical conditions for
holiday travel), passport form completion etc. Details of fees
can be obtained from reception.
Oversees visitors
Visitors from abroad are not normally entitled to receive
care on the NHS and there will normally be a charge for any
consultations and treatment. If a prescription is issued,
there may be a charge at the pharmacy for the medication. If a
patient requires referral to hospital, there are likely to be
further charges.
